Whether it'southward one-night stands, hookups, or friends with benefits, there are plenty of popular, stone, land, and R&B songs about finding temporary dearest. Make a playlist about casual sexual relationships, and exist conscientious out there.

Hookup Culture

Your parents may deny it, and your preacher may frown, but as much as today's amusement and media tend to portray them equally a mod cultural miracle, hookups have ever been popular. Casual sexual encounters are

  • typically aided past alcohol
  • beginning out as introductions at a political party or other public location, and
  • don't always involve going all the fashion.

Sometimes, hookups even lead to committed dating relationships.

The downsides of hookups, of grade, include the following:

  • the much-publicized safety risks of intimacy with a random stranger, and especially of using hookup apps like Tinder and Grindr
  • unintended pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and
  • emotional emptiness.

One-night stands are an ever-popular topic in music. Make a playlist nigh pop, rock, and state songs well-nigh hookups, friends with benefits arrangements, and one-night stands. We won't judge. We accept a long listing to first you out.

1. "Hotel Central" by Old Dominion

This own't your mama's country. In this upbeat 2018 ditty, a man grows nostalgic about a hookup he had with a adult female who left their hotel room with a memento—their hotel key. The couple spent a memorable night with their clothes strewn all over the floor, as they talked about their lives, danced, and discovered the location of hidden birthmarks and tattoos. Then they never saw each other again.

Reader Perspective

2. "Stay with Me" by Sam Smith

The homo in this 2014 pop song is no stranger to one-night stands. The morning subsequently his latest romp, he realizes that it's not love, nevertheless he asks his temporary partner to stay and keep him company. Still feeling empty and in need of an emotional connection, he needs an agreement hand to hold.

3. "Perfect Strangers" past Jonas Blue (featuring JP Cooper)

Who knows what the future holds for the ii strangers in this 2016 pop vocal who take simply spent the nighttime together? The narrator swears he'due south non playing games or wasting the adult female's time. He'southward open to the possibilities, from walking away to perhaps even developing a lasting relationship. While information technology's not incommunicable for hook-ups to transition into stable dating relationships, it does take advice regarding feelings and expectations.

4. "Will Yous All the same Beloved Me Tomorrow" by The Shirrelles

Older folks may not desire to acknowledge it, merely this 1960 R&B chart-topper shows that hookups were happening dorsum and then, besides. This was the commencement song by an all-black daughter group to reach the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It describes a young woman who is facing a nighttime of passion merely has doubts whether promises spoken in the nighttime will represent the next morning's regrets.

5. "Become Lucky" past Daft Punk (featuring Pharrell Williams & Nile Rodgers)

For good reason, this upbeat 2013 disco throwback melody was a worldwide hit and i of the best-selling songs of all time. Its energy is positively contagious.

The couple in the song has instantly connected with 1 another, and the lovers feel a magnetic sexual attraction that lasts well into the next morn:

She's up all dark to the sunday
I'm up all night to go some
She's up all night for good fun
I'm upwards all night to get lucky.

6. "You Shook Me All Nighttime Long" by AC/DC

A true staple of hard rock, this 1980 classic describes a human'southward thrilling sexual encounter. While music enthusiasts disagree over the verbal pregnant of the song, I'm amid those who interpret information technology as describing a cursory, humdinger of a tryst with a gorgeous woman.

7. "Blame" by Calvin Harris (featuring John Newman)

Uh oh. Looks like this lover boy looks over and sees a woman in his bed, and so freaks out nigh how he'south gonna explain his relationship misstep.

In this 2014 pop song, a guilty conscience is burning a hole in the cheating man's heart. He decides to confess his sins and blame his one-nighttime stand on the night. (Allow'south run across how that goes over with the Mrs.)

"Making love with strangers is how you get hurt." ― Dominic Riccitello, American blogger

eight. "Terminal Friday" past Katy Perry

How practice you know when you need to get yourself to rehab? If you lot're the Hollywood type, it would be when Friday night partying means yous black out, interruption the law, and max out the credit cards. The girl in this 2010 popular song then has a ménage à trois with strangers and ends up with glitter in her bed and pink flamingos in the pool. She'south prepared to repeat her antics next weekend.

ten. "Nosotros've Got Tonight" by Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band

In this 1978 soft rock song, a despondent, life-weary man has been unsuccessfully searching for dear. He approaches a woman who seems to similarly need amore. Although he knows their fourth dimension together will be short-lived, he attempts to persuade her to jump in the sack and provide each other mutual comfort.

11. "Hurricane" past Halsey

The narrator in this popular vocal from 2015 pop song is a young woman who felt used past a homo she was attracted to. Her manner of hitting dorsum is to become edgy, unpredictable, and contained—someone who doesn't have any human attachment or stability in her life:

I'1000 a wanderess
I'm a one night stand
Don't vest to no city
Don't belong to no man
I'one thousand the violence in the pouring pelting
I'm a hurricane.

12. "Don't" by Ed Sheeran

Rumor is it that this 2014 vocal is about a love triangle involving musicians Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding, and One Direction's Niall Horan. The song describes how the narrator, Ed, had a friends with benefits arrangement with Ellie, but their relationship became more emotional for him than information technology was for her.

Ah, merely that's the thing about friends with benefits. Things never stay casual. They get complicated and don't end well.

When Ellie had a one-night stand up with Niall—who was Ed'south friend at the time— Ed saw the tryst as adulterous. Her common cold-hearted violation of trust and respect was like a pocketknife to Ed's middle, and this song was his manner of publicly rebuking her: "Don't f*ck with my love."

Reader Poll

thirteen. "I'm Just Talkin' About This night" past Toby Keith

What do you lot expect in a bar? The lady in this song is hoping to observe someone, start equally friends, accept information technology boring, and terminate up with a serious dating prospect. But the smart-alecky narrator is a jerk who is simply looking for a quickie, nothing more. He makes his intentions known in this 2001 country ditty that he'due south just talking virtually this evening.

fourteen. "Almost Lover" past A Fine Frenzy

There's something very bittersweet about an attraction that never materialized into the love thing you wanted. It represents unrealized potential. The might've-beens can haunt you forever.

In this 2007 popular song, a couple share a cursory concrete connection, and their relationship means more emotionally to the female narrator than to her partner. Now her heart is broken, and she'south turned her back on him in an effort to forget.

15. "Third Charge per unit Romance" by Sammy Kershaw

Behind closed doors at the Family Inn, there'south a 3rd-rate romance going downward involving two horny strangers. By sunrise, they'll exercise their walk of shame dorsum to their respective homes.

This humorous 1994 country tune portrays a couple meeting in a ritzy restaurant. The alcohol flows, and they don't need to utilize much small talk because they knowing exactly what they want. While the woman claims she'south never done this kinda thing earlier, her partner admits he'southward washed so only a fourth dimension or two, if you lot tin believe that.

16. "Tonight (I'thou Lovin' You)" past Enrique Iglesias (featuring Ludacris and DJ Frank E)

There's a muddied version of this 2010 Latin song, merely we're going with the cleaner one. This is a sexy, very danceable number that describes a man's pickup pitch. This dude is extremely forward in his presentation, telling the adult female he's attracted to that he knows she wants him and its totally mutual.

In fact, the horny fella confidently informs her that this night he'southward ... ahem ... "loving" her. So he proceeds to provide details. This guy is setting the groundwork for either a one-dark stand or a major slap in the face.

17. "Trivial Cherry-red Corvette" by Prince

In this steamy 1983 pop song, the narrator is somewhat intimidated by his partner for the nighttime. He compares the beautiful and promiscuous woman to a showy, high-end, luxury car, i that's built well withal needs to be valued if information technology's going to last.

They're both in it for the one-dark stand, and although he has a good time, he expresses business concern for her preference for casual sex activity: "yous're much too fast" and "yous need a dearest that gonna last."

eighteen. "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You" past Heart

Call it a hookup with a deceitful purpose. Call it incorrect on oh, so many levels.

This 1990 rock song tells the story of a woman who is in beloved with her infertile husband. Drastic to conceive, she picks up a young hitchhiker, takes him to a hotel, and has a nighttime of passion with him.

Years after, she and their love kid run into the same stranger. When the human being recognizes them, she launches into an awkard explanation for why she took reward of him rather than pursue some other selection for having a baby with her husband. There'due south something really creepy nearly this 1. Some say he joined the #MeToo movement.

nineteen. "Last Name" by Carrie Underwood

Blame another wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am on Jose Cuervo. This fun country vocal from 2008 features a woman who drank too much, got a little crazy on the dance flooring, and ended upwards leaving the bar at 3 a.chiliad. with some guy driving a Pinto. The problem was she didn't fifty-fifty know his last name, and when she woke up in Vegas with a ring on her hand, she wasn't sure of hers either.

20. "She Thinks His Name Was John" past Reba McEntire

Anonymous sex can sometimes have disastrous consequences, and this gut-wrenching state song from 1994 reminds us of the lifetime impact that one bad decision tin take. In this country carol, a woman acquires HIV/AIDS from a mannerly stranger she had a one-night stand with.

Reba was brave for tackling the taboo subject of HIV/AIDS at the fourth dimension. Although 1994 wasn't quite the dark ages when it came to the disease, other music genres and Hollywood were significantly more vocal in addressing the controversial issue.

For about a decade, this was nigh all land music had to say on the subject:

Now each day is one day that's left in her life
She won't know love, have a spousal relationship or sing lullabies
She lays all alone and cries herself to sleep
'Cause she allow a stranger kill her hopes and her dreams
And all her friends say what a pity, what a loss
And in the end when she was barely hangin' on
All she could say is she thinks his name was John.

One research study about one-night stands found that women have them because they feel flattered, they raise their standards in choosing a mate, and often feel regret after. Men often seek adventure, lower their standards, and feel more gratified.

One research report almost one-nighttime stands found that women have them considering they feel flattered, they heighten their standards in choosing a mate, and often experience regret after. Men ofttimes seek adventure, lower their standards, and feel more gratified.

Larry - I like your perspective. A relative worked in an STD testing dispensary in the DC surface area and patently it'due south a thing to hook up with random people in the dark at parties. Only imagine!

My relative is a health professional who tested lots of people for all kinds of yuckies and listened to how they got them, oft from coincidental encounters. And it wasn't just young folks and poor people. It was often elected officials and staffers, businesspeople, etc. They went to the clinic considering no names were used whatsoever, only numbers. Probably amend off just to stay at the bar and flirt, although many people are very lonely and disconnected and will take a chance.

Larry Rankin from Oklahoma on September 08, 2018:

Seems like a fun thought in theory, but sex without caring is a harder sale to my body than my mind.

FlourishAnyway (author) from USA on September 07, 2018:

Natalie - There's sooo much codespeak, like "Netflix and arctic." While we might call up that sounds relaxing, it means to "go busy" with someone during/after a cheap engagement watching Netflix at one of your places. Yikes. Amazing how the lingo changes!

Natalie Frank from Chicago, IL on September 06, 2018:

I'g going to age my self as well, simply allow's hook up when I was a teenager just meant lets get together subsequently, cypher more than that. At present "dinner and a moving-picture show," well. . . that's another matter! You actually need to put a book together with all your playlists! Information technology would be pretty thick. It could make a good java table book!

Robert Sacchi on September 03, 2018:

They say: Mr. Truzy keeps it real, whether it's a give-and-take of the spread of STD's (like you lot mentioned) or finding a job, and/or worshiping Him.

Thank you for "keeping information technology real" Flourish.

Sincerely,

Tim

Suhail Zubaid aka Clark Kent from Mississauga, ON on August 28, 2018:

Ha-ha so here is a wish listing of songs for difficult rock bands of the yore.

I am 100% sure that all those 80s hair bands had songs along these lines. I peculiarly used to like a blues based melodic hard rock ring by the proper noun of Peachy White. The band's albums were replete with songs about one dark encounters. Unfortunately, the band is more known for causing a fire blow at a night club in Rhodes Island that killed many people than for its melodic difficult rock.

Ac/DC is ranked second subsequently Led Zep by Ranker website and this song justifies.

Great listing and that song by Heart? Well, I would prefer The Runaways over them anytime, but the song is intriguing.

Regards,

Suhail and my dog

Shannon Henry from Texas on August 26, 2018:

There'due south no use crying over spilled perfume..... Thank you, now that song is in my head. LOL. It ever stayed in my caput whenever I heard it on the radio, too. Pam Tillis is proficient at that.

I recall that LeAnn Womack's "I May Detest Myself in the Morning" fits your list here. What almost "Lonely Eyes" by Chris Young?

FlourishAnyway (author) from USA on August 26, 2018:

Paula - Better to have TMI than be mistaken as clueless. I am sometimes aghast by new stuff I larn but I endeavour not to show it. Stay chill, YOLO, Paula.

Suzie from Carson City on August 26, 2018:

Well.....Flourish & Genna......"Let'southward claw upwardly subsequently," at 1 time (in the good old days) it surely DID have an innocent significant! I hear y'all Genna, about the naivety. How I wish I could remain naive but I have too many young adult grandchildren who continually educate their clueless grandmother. I've resorted to telling them that they give me "too much information" and I prefer existence a "stupid erstwhile lady!"

I read a long list a while ago, of terms that meant one thing, back in our day, but mean something entirely different today.

Don't know near y'all ladies, but I resent having to learn a whole new language at my age, only so I don't embarrass myself or trip over my words!

Flourish, some other superb article! Peace, Paula

FlourishAnyway (author) from Usa on August 26, 2018:

Genna - I've heard adults use the term with friends (as in "let's hook up later on" when that's not at ALL what they meant. I usually snicker and if advisable I tell them so they don't make a fool of themselves anymore. Thanks for stopping by and for the song proposition. Take a wonderful week.

Genna East from Massachusetts, The states on August 26, 2018:

I'm so naive, I never knew what "hooked up" actually meant until recently. I idea it was connecting with a friend. (Lol.) I wonder if the term was originally derived from hooker? Just I'yard a little concerned over the casualness of our youth (teenagers) in hooking upward. Loved this music! Give thanks you, as ever. Does Tina Turner'due south "What's Love Got to Do With Information technology" fit the category? I'm not certain.

FlourishAnyway (author) from USA on August 26, 2018:

Linda - Thanks for being a good sport and reading even though yous don't typically know the songs! I appreciate you.

FlourishAnyway (author) from Us on August 26, 2018:

Bob - On the Sammy Kershaw song, sometimes I include comprehend versions instead of the original, and this was only one of those times. Members of the Rhythm Aces actually backed him up on the vocals, which is neat. Calculation the Four Seasons song. Cheers for the song suggestion!

Linda Crampton from British Columbia, Canada on August 25, 2018:

Every bit e'er, I appreciate your enquiry and your descriptions. I don't know any of the songs, but they certainly sound interesting!

Robert Sacchi on August 25, 2018:

Another fun list. At that place was a 70's version of "Third Rate Romance", by the Rhythm Aces. At that place was also "December, 1963" likewise known every bit "Oh what a night", The Iv Seasons.

I love "Angel of the Morning", I find the song haunting.

FlourishAnyway (author) from United states on August 25, 2018:

Tim - Thanks for the song suggestions. I added LL Cool J's vocal (which I wasn't familiar with and which definitely fit, omg). 3rd Rate Romance was indeed a cover past Sammy Kershaw. It was start recorded dorsum in 1975, and some of the members of the band backed up Sammy Kershaw on his version of it. Cheers for stopping past. This was a fun ane to put together, inspired by a question from a reader.

Tim Truzy from U.S.A. on Baronial 25, 2018:

This was not bad, Flourish. How-do-you-do, Flourish,

I read this and smiled. I have never been one for the one dark stands, however, many of these tunes are familiar to me.

Here is a few more I thought near:

Billy Joel"Simply the Good Die Immature. Isn't the narrator trying to encourage the Catholic girl, Virginia, to "come up out?"

LL Cool J."Backseat." The narrator says back seat of my jeep, "Let'due south boot an episode.

Freddy Jackson: Rock Me This night for Former Time Sake. In this melody, the narrator talks virtually how he loves this girl, simply they merely hook up occasionally. Does that count? At that place isn't much of a relationship going on in the song. In fact, he says: "Then much has happened in my life since we've parted. How about you?"

This was a fun to read list of songs about a common topic of dissimilar types of music. That vocal, Third Rate Romance, isn't it a remake?

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Tim

Linda Lum from Washington Land, USA on August 25, 2018:

Flourish, Ann Wilson has a voice that is listen-blowing, and her sister Nancy is 1 of the all-time guitarists. Menses. They were born and raised in the Seattle area, so I've ever loved them and followed their career. Their vocal is the i I immediately thought of when I read the title of this article.

The "new" songs (i.eastward. anything written after 1980 LOL) I have to acknowledge I'm not familiar with. I admire the corporeality of research yous put into these. Well done.

FlourishAnyway (author) from USA on August 25, 2018:

Nib - Tin you even imagine that funny song taking place? Might not be so funny if you're the guy in information technology and not expecting Lola to be a man.

FlourishAnyway (writer) from United states on Baronial 25, 2018:

Mary - I'm glad to be married a long time and non have to deal with today's dating culture, as I understand from single friends that information technology tin can be brutal.

FlourishAnyway (writer) from USA on August 25, 2018:

Heidi - At the fourth dimension it was popular, I was singing along on the radio non thinking about what the heck the lyrics meant (and probably not getting all of them right either). It strikes me as super odd that she selected a freaking hitchhiker every bit the father of her kid, and she mentions he was immature, too. I'chiliad hoping he was at least of consent age. Super strange, a dangerous thing to do picking up a stranger in the rain. I recollect of murder, STDs, and all kinds of bad stuff. She didn't fifty-fifty give the dude breakfast in the morning and left him all the same stranded in a hotel with his clothes still clammy!

Louise Powles from Norfolk, England on August 25, 2018:

I'thou glad you lot put Carrie Underwood in at that place. She's got a lovely voice.

Frances Metcalfe from The Limousin, French republic on August 25, 2018:

Hi Flourish - a really entertaining and oftentimes humerous article. Definitely in the danger zone here - the lesson is exist very careful and don't hurt anyone!

Pecker Holland from Olympia, WA on August 25, 2018:

Lola for sure....one of the funnier songs to come out of the Sixties....fashion ahead of its time. The other one I idea of was Bob Seger'south.....showing my age once again.

Mary Norton from Ontario, Canada on August 25, 2018:

Flourish, this culture was non a practise when I was growing up. Oh my, just confessing my age. Each generation has its own unique trend. As you've placed here, women at first feel flattered but regret it later on. The songs limited very well the many feelings involved in the feel.

Heidi Thorne from Chicago Surface area on August 25, 2018:

Dang, girl! So I open upward HP this morning and wake up to this steamy playlist. :)

The ane that I thought of correct abroad was #18 by Heart. Yep, kind of weird with so many options and adoptions available. And how about perfect timing with that? And she was gambling on a stranger beingness, um, not in the aforementioned state of affairs as her hubby. How'd she do that? Don't know about y'all, just I couldn't tell just from looking at a guy. Possibly she had some screening questionnaire? Nothing awkward about that.

Oh well, thank you for starting my day with a grinning! Happy Weekend!
